Removal of Financial Reporting Studio Desktop Client
When I was working on the on-premises Hyperion planning projects, the Financial Reporting Studio Desktop client is one of my best friend, even though using it sometime is very tedious, but at end of the day it could give us pretty nice and well formatted reports. One of the downside is, it only has PC version, no macOS version. So when I am using my mac to build report, I will need to use VM to change to windows system.
Luckily, in March 2016, Oracle first release the Financial Reporting Web Studio. The Web Studio is a Web-based report authoring solution. I was really excited about that. It has similar in look and feel to the Windows Studio.
Starting with the December 2016 release, the Web Studio achieved functional parity with most of the capabilities provided with the Windows Studio. We are able to create new reports and modify existing reporting using this web studio.
Oracle has confirmed that the Financial Reporting Web Studio is established as the only tool for designing and building reports. With the May 2017 update, the Financial Reporting Studio desktop client will no longer be distributed.
Removal of Standard Interface
When Oracle first release PBCS in February, 2014, it has the Standard Interface only which is similar to what we see in the Hyperion planning applications.
In November 2014, The Simplified Interface became an available option in PBCS, and starting from then, the simplified interface has established as the standard across the service. The simplified interface is customizable, and also gives the users a “cloud” taste application.
More importantly, for PBCS customers who activated their subscriptions on or before July 31, 2016, the Standard Interface and the Simplified Interface are both available as of now. We can change the UI Display from the Setting section.
But starting with the December 2017 update, all service functionality will be available through the Simplified Interface only. The UI Display option will not be available by then.
By that time the “Standard Interface” for cloud service will become history, and it may only exist in the on-premises Hyperion applications.
