EDMCS Lab – Enterprise Data Management Cloud Introduction

May 7, 2018

On January 25th, 2018, Enterprise Data Management Cloud got released. Finally, DRM moved to cloud. It is good to see that the EPM family is getting stronger. After several monthly patches installed to EDMCS, I guess it is time to discuss some high-level EDMCS functionalities.

First and foremost, similar to other EPM cloud applications, such as EPBCS, FCCS, etc. EDMCS is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product and it has a similar cloud application interface. EDMCS provides a single platform to flexibly manage enterprise data while maintaining data integrity and enterprise application alignment. The following is the EDMCS home page interface.

Click the Navigator to navigate different functions or just click the specific function icons.

One of the great EDMCS functions is the OOTB adapters which are available to integrate seamlessly to other Oracle EPM products, such as PBCS, EPBCS. Register applications via simple question and answer wizards and generate metadata to instantiate application-specific perspectives. Click Applications icon to view all the connections.

Click Register to register a new application. Currently, there are three available options for now: Custom, EPBCS, and PBCS.

Select Views to review all the available metadata. In the meantime, EDMCS provides the viewpoints at our own pace to improve the quality of data within an application or domain. We are able to generate requests to submit changes and record them for audit purposes.

EDMCS provides a Data Chain to manage metadata. A data chain is a series of related data objects. The nodes available to users in a viewpoint are defined by its data chain. The configurations of objects on a data chain also define a viewpoint’s available properties. Data objects are modular; node types, hierarchy sets, and node sets can be used in multiple data chains. The data objects have the following relationships:

  • A node type is used by one or more hierarchy sets or node sets.
  • A hierarchy set uses one or more node types.
  • A hierarchy set is used by one or more node sets.
  • A node set uses one hierarchy set.
  • A node set for a list uses one or more node types.

In the meantime, EDMCS provides a change request process flow. We are able to requests to create new, or change existing, enterprise data, relationships, and attributes. Then model and visualize each request item and associated actions against the target structures to understand change impact and priority. Finally, submit new items and apply changes to existing ones together via a single atomic request to ensure consistent submission and commitment against target viewpoints.

Also, in EDMCS, we can compare hierarchies within an application or business perspectives across applications to understand differences. Rationalize differences using a visual, drag-and-drop interface.

Last but not the least, EDMCS supports EPM Automate utility, which is used for other EPM cloud application as well. Being said, EDMCS can leverage the REST API.

We will discuss more detailed functionalities in the future posts. See you next time.
